There are around a dozen lakes on the Seefeld plateau. The Wildsee in Seefeld, the Weidachsee in Leutasch and the Möserer See are only the best-known. What they all have in common is their wonderful position in the middle of the impressive mountain landscape and the fact that you can plunge into them all for a swim.
The Wildsee at the southern end of Seefeld gave the village its name. The Emperor Maximilian used this lake to breed fish. Today the Wildsee is one of the best-loved lakes on the plateau, even though its temperature seldom goes above 20°C. The southern end of the lake with the Reither Moor is a protected nature reserve.
The idyllic Möserer See, just above Mösern, is one of the warmest swimming lakes in the Tyrol and is especially popular at weekends. Despite the fact that it is in a nature reserve, bathing is allowed in the lake.
Near the Möserer Sees, on the Wildmoos plateau, a special natural phenomenon comes into play every couple of years: from nowhere two lakes appear in the middle of the meadows - the Wildmoos- and the Lottensee. Sometimes springs spray water from the deep. In autumn these lakes disappear again before reappearing a couple of years' later.
The Weidachsee in Leutasch was mentioned in the famous fishing guide of the Emperor Maximilian in the year 1500. Today the Leutasch vet Dr. Thomas Angerer breeds fish, especially trout and char. There is also the possibility to try your hand at fishing here, without reservation and without a special license, even in winter.
